A virtual desktop, such as Shadow, is an internet-based hosted desktop service. The desktop operating system and data are stored in a data centre and are usually accessed via a web browser. It doesn't matter if you access it via a Windows PC, Mac, Linux or a thin client. You can even use a tablet.
